Back in the Blogging Saddle.

24 Jan

Ok Loyal PERKS Followers, deep breaths.

I’m back.

This past summer was a crazy one. Two of my best friends got married. On the same weekend. I was a maid of honor, and a bridesmaid all in one 24 hour period. And I was beyond thrilled to stand up for two such fabulous ladies.

I attended several other weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, and bachelorette parties.

I was raising a rambunctious toddler. And nursing a very cute baby. And we had swim lessons. And park playdates.

And somehow a CAH-RAZY summer rolled into a fabulously busy fall.

We blinked and our chicken-filled halloween rolled right into a turkey-filled thanksgiving, followed by a fantastically festive Christmas and New Year.

And suddenly, its the end of January and this poor ol’ blog has been neglected. Neglected-but most CERTAINLY NOT forgotten.

I needed a mental break. Some downtime to get my writing mojo back.

A chance to enjoy my boys and not worry about taking pictures constantly, or documenting every.single.thing. that happens in our perk-filled lives.

But after a much needed break, I am so excited to be back in the blogging saddle.

Mama Perks is ready to return your regularly scheduled programming-complete with pictures, anecdotes, and the downright ridiculous happenings of a mother busy raising two toddler boys.

Did I mention said toddler boys are

Here’s the proof….

Six months ago they looked like this…

And now…they’re all grown up…

Hope y’all are having a fantastic Tuesday.

Stay tuned. I’ll be recapping lots of exciting perks from the past six months in the coming weeks…

Let’s All Go to the Movies!

23 Aug

Do you all remember your very first movie theater experience?

Daddy Perks and I both love to see movies, and although we don’t get out to see them nearly as much as we used to-we were very excited to take Henry to see Cars 2 earlier this summer.

It was extra special to spend some one-on-one time with Henry as we are used to being a family of four these days.

Henry was absolutely enamored with the theater and it was so fun to experience something so simple through his eyes.

That’s right. We saw the movie at 9:50 AM.

We figured it’d be mostly families there this early in the morning.

And yes. We still got a large popcorn.

And a large coke. But that was just for Daddy Perks and I.

When we first entered the theater, Henry was totally enthralled.

He sat perfectly in his seat for about 50 mintues, eating popcorn, saying ‘Vroom Vroom” and smiling at both of us.

Then he got a bit antsy and alternated between sitting in our laps.

And then he was done.

We ended up missing the last 30 minutes of the movie (which was entirely too long to begin with.)

But Henry had a total blast running throughout the hallways…

The boy is FAST.

He was very curious about all the posters.

And then he happened upon something…

A giant cat wearing a cape.

Also known as Puss ‘N Boots, who apparently is leaving Shrek behind to star in his own feature length film.

Anyways, I’m pretty sure Henry enjoyed this cardboard cut-out almost as much as the movie.

It’s the little things, right?

Anyways, as we walked out of the theater Daddy Perks and I looked at each other and both said…

“For his first time…all in all-a success.”

Later that day we hung out with friends, and one of them snapped a shot of the entire Perkins clan:

Happy Tuesday from our family to yours 🙂

Visitor PERKS.

9 May

I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such love and support from our family and friends since we had our boys.

The best gift we can give our children is time spent with the people who are near and dear to our hearts.

And it means SO much to me that my friends have travelled from near and far to meet our little Marshall over the past few months.  Yes-I can say FEW months now because Marshall turned 3 months old last week.

Don’t even get me started on how fast time is moving with two children around.

Anyways-I wanted to share a few pictures of some of the lovely out-of-town visitors we’ve had since our little Marshy-Moo came into the world…

My dear friend Katie (aka KTP) came to visit about a month after Marshall was born. She came all the way from Chicago to see us-and I’m thrilled to announce that as of this summer-she’ll be moving back to Columbus!

Katie happens to be one of the brides getting married this summer whose wedding I’ll be standing in.

Yes-she’s tiny enough to sit in Henry’s chair.

Remind me not to eat again from now until July so that I don’t look like the beached whale bridesmaid standing next to her on her wedding day.

Katie and I have been friends for over 15 years now.  I love and adore her with all my heart and can’t wait to watch her marry her groom this summer.

After all-I do take credit for setting them up.  But that story’s for another day…

Remember these lovely ladies? They came to visit from Cincinnati and Indianapolis after I had Henry and were so sweet to travel to us once again back in March so they could meet Marshall.

In fact-a year later-they sat in the very same chair again so I could snap their picture.  Only this time they each got to hold a Perkins boy…

Ashley holding Marshall & Lindsay holding Henry.

Henry’s a little busier these days since the first time he sat in this chair with these ladies, so we had to bribe him with the infamous bubble wand to get him to sit still long enough for the picture.

Guess which person in this picture could care less about the bubbles…

After Ashley and Lindsay’s visit, the very next Sunday Abby and Jenny came to spend the afternoon with us…

Ladies-don’t be offended that Marsh slept almost the entire time you were there…

Henry loved having you as his lunch dates as he downed his cheese tortellini…

Abby holding Marsh, Jenny, Henry and I!

Abby is also getting married this summer and I was thrilled when she asked me to be her matron of honor.

I am elated to be celebrating her big day standing next to her.

Abby and I were roommates in college and she’s the best friend I could ask for.

Abby, Jenny, and I have many fond memories from college together-including the infamous trip to the Bahamas.  Many memories of which we will never tell our mothers about.

And last but not least-Miss Bonnie came to see us this past Friday…

Marsh had goo goo eyes for Bonnie.

Bonnie is currently living down south in Atlanta and happened to be in town for Mother’s Day.

She and I both grew up in Columbus-but didn’t meet until we were in college together at UK.

I love getting together with Bonnie because we can (and do) chat for hours catching up on life like no time has passed.  I’m beyond thrilled that I’ll be seeing plenty of this chick this summer because of all the wedding festivities of our friends 🙂

Like I said-I am SO blessed to have so many wonderful friends who love and adore my boys as much as I do.

Thanks to each of you who have travelled to spend time with us.

Happy Monday Loyal PERKS followers.

I promise to catch you up on Easter and Mother’s Day this week.

And PS-the blogging gods must have sent a signal to mother nature after my post about the rain.

Ever since I complained, the sun hasn’t stopped shining.

Amen to sunshine.

On The Tough Days…

21 Apr

I just try to remind myself…

Children are a gift.

And even on days where I find myself counting to ten in my head and taking absurd amounts of deep breaths…

Because this little rascal is digging those sweet little fingers in the pantry for the umpteenth time…

I still know it’s all worth it.

Today while Henry was eating lunch and I was doing the dishes, I sneezed.

And then I heard the sweetest little voice say:

“Bless You.”

…or in Henry language…

“Bleh eeeee.”

And it’s moments like that one that leave no doubt in my mind…

That I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Happy Thursday.

14 Apr

We haven’t exactly had time to stop and smell the roses around the Perks house lately.  It’s been a busy Spring so far-and Summer is showing no signs of slowing down.

But don’t worry, I’ve got lots to share…coming soon-the last installment of our Kentucky road trip, Marshall’s 2 month update, and a whole ‘lotta fun pictures.

Until then-these goofy knuckleheads would like to wish you a very lovely Thursday…

Double Chin Wednesday.

23 Feb

Only a mother could find these double chins absolutely DE-LICIOUS…

Mommy & Marsh…

Mr. Henry having just a little fun on the swing at the park the other day…

I figure I’ve got a limited time frame where I can exploit my boys’ double chins before they start to have self esteem complexes.

Safe to say fruits and veggies for Hank & breastmilk for Marsh are doing their bodies good 🙂

*Editor’s Note: Henry is not nearly as hefty as he appears in this photo.  Call it a bad angle-just don’t  child services on me for overfeeding my kid.

Bubble Baby Boy.

27 Jan

Isn’t it some type of childhood prerequisite that at some point (when kids are still young enough that it’s not creepy to take naked pictures of them) your parents push your wet, soapy hair up into a faux-hawk and then take a picture of you?

I thought so.

Henry was particularly entertaining during his bath time the other night, and I just had to capture his goofy personality-and my stellar attempt at giving him his very first faux-hawk.

If nothing else-I hope these pictures give you a small glimpse into how happy Henry is during bath time.  He is a splish-splashin’, rubber ducky lovin’, water baby.  And it makes me all kinds of excited for warmer weather and trips to the pool to hurry up and get here!

I think it’s safe to say we’ve come a LONG WAY from his very first encounter with the big-boy-bathtub…remember?

Ok-be honest-did you actually click on the link above and watch the video from when we gave Henry his first real bath? He was ten days old.  I have to tell you-when I was re-watching the video the other night, it literally rocked my world.  Was he that small? Really?

And Daddy Perks walked over as he heard the cries of his firstborn coming from the computer-and we both teared up. Partially because the sight of Henry screaming so uncontrollably is still a little bit heartbreaking, (even 17 months later) but mostly because our baby is not so baby-ish anymore.

Let’s all promise to have this much fun the next time we bathe, deal?
