Doctor Doctor…Tell Me the News…

23 Sep

Daddy Perks and I took Henry to his very first doctor’s appointment a couple weeks ago.  (Weird to say a “couple weeks ago” considering the kid has only been alive for 3.)  Ohhhh the anticipation as we pulled into the parking lot, eager to learn just how many ounces our monkey man had gained in his 9 days of being alive.

All babies tend to lose weight while they are in the hospital-Henry was born weighing 7lbs. 7 oz. and left the hospital weighing 6 lbs. 13 oz.  The goal is to get your bambino back to their birth weight by the time they are 2 weeks old.

As we sat in the waiting room we checked out our competition…scoping out how plump the other week-old babies looked-sure that our little man had done all he could to pack on as many ounces as possible.  We learned from Dr. Matt that our growing boy was back up to 7 lbs. 4 oz.  which meant he only had to gain 3 oz. in his second week of life to pass the test.  Am I boring you with the numbers?

Anyways-turns out when we went back to have him weighed at 2 weeks, he had not only reached his birth weight, but passed it with flying colors. He was up to a whopping 7 lbs. 12 oz.  He’s pretty much huge.  And that was a week ago.  You can only imagine what another 7 days of breast milk will do for a growing boy.  Speaking of breastfeeding…can I tell you about how it is my new favorite diet. For a mommy who is desperately trying to return to a body that she can recognize…I assure you that it is only because my chest is now a 24-hour milk bar that I’ve already shed 25 lbs in just 21 days.  But again-enough about the numbers-we all know why you came to this site…

He was SO GOOD during his very first trip to the doctor.  He just laid there the whole time he was being poked and prodded…and FYI…those are newborn size pants he is wearing 🙂

Could I be any more IN LOVE with these two boys?!?

Up next…the first bath sans umbilical cord…AKA…the big boy bathtub…AKA…lots of tears.  You’re in for a real treat because not only did we take pictures…but there’s video-and I’m definitely cruel enough to post it on the internet for the WHOLE wide world to see 🙂  Stay tuned…

He is so darn cute, Lindz. And you look gorgeous – way too good for being just three weeks out (I will reference said “milk bar”). Please tell Colin that I love his hat. He’s so stylish:).

Way to go Henry! 🙂 Glad to hear that the “milk bar” is going well. It gives a mommy-to-be hope. (Usually, you hear all the horror stories associated with breast feeding.) And, I agree with Rach, you look AMAZING! 🙂 Can’t wait to see the bath video!
